Born and raised in Aires Puros, Montevideo, Felipe Varela—known professionally as Petty or Pettyonthebeat—is an Uruguayan beatmaker, producer, and rapper whose artistry spans the full spectrum of hip-hop's subgenres. What began at 15 with freestyle sessions and songwriting over boom-bap beats evolved into a multifaceted career that bridges performance and production.

Petty's journey into music production unfolded alongside his work as a rapper, allowing him to develop a dual perspective that informs his craft. His signature sound is defined by haunting, atmospheric production—dark, obscure melodies that evoke cinematic tension and raw emotion. Each beat carries an unsettling intensity, crafting sonic landscapes that feel like stepping into a murder scene.

Today, Petty's focus has shifted primarily to production. He's produced for Lucho SSJ, AC Milan star Rafael Leão, Doly Flackko, and many other acts, bringing his distinctive dark sound to each collaboration.

In 2024, Petty joined ventures with Martin Leib to found SWS, a production powerhouse based in Uruguay.
